English translation

2016. It was narrated from 'Umar bin Khattāb that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ divorced Hafsa then took her back. (Sahih)

Arabic text

2016 - حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ، وَمَسْرُوقُ بْنُ الْمَرْزُبَانِ، قَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ صَالِحِ بْنِ حَيٍّ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، طَلَّقَ حَفْصَةَ، ثُمَّ رَاجَعَهَا»

Commentary

a. Giving divorce is permissible but one should avoid doing so without any valid reason. b. Restoration of the wife after divorce grants her all the rights that she had before divorce.
